The lab welcomes students and scholars at all stages of training (undergraduate, medical, graduate, visiting, etc.) who are interested in any or all of the following:
- Wet lab work centered on cellular metabolism, with an emphasis on mass-spectrometry-based metabolomics but also encompassing standard molecular and cell biology techniques
- Mouse models of obesity, cancer, and radiation response
- Computational and statistical analyses using both established and investigational pipelines to interrogate metabolomic, RNA sequencing (including single-cell), and large-scale clinical data
- Human-subjects protocols (both retrospective and prospective)
Mentoring philosophy: Science and medicine are team endeavors. Many of the skills in these fields are acquired through supervised “on-the-job” learning from both peers and older mentors. The job of the principal investigator or group leader is to ensure that all mentees feel supported in their learning and career goals. This support can take many forms, including but not limited to creating a collegial and collaborative lab environment, direct teaching, guidance on projects, revising manuscripts and applications, and advising on opportunities both during and after a trainee’s time in lab. The core values of our group are ethical conduct and growth through learning. We welcome everyone who is invested in our shared research goals, regardless of background.
